EMS - SHEDDING

BACK

The rationalization of energy consumption is the biggest challenge at the moment, forcing companies to take measures to reduce energy consumption in order to meet the worldwide goals set by the Kyoto Protocol, as well as by the latest Lisbon Treaty.

In any production process, industrial or merely related to service activities, Energy Management is of vital importance, not only in terms of cost and competitiveness, but also on its environmental impacts and human welfare.

Aware of the importance of all these factors, EXSEPI developed an Energy and Consumption Management System (SGE), non-reactive, which was complemented with a reactive system, creating an Energy Management System with shedding features (SGE-shedding), thus conceiving a joint technological solution that meets all the needs for electrical energy management.

With the SGE-shedding system, it is possible to manage and optimize energy resources automatically, without human intervention, except the need to perform an initial setting, carried out by the energy manager.

In addition to the shedding system, EXSEPI developed a building automation management system, called SGED, which when integrated with SGE-shedding and SGE, controls industrial facilities and buildings completely autonomously and automatically.

The information stored in the SGE, SGE-shedding and SGED, may be broadcasted at the company through an internal TV circuit, called Corporate TV, also developed by EXSEPI in order to present through multimedia, the savings obtained with the implemented measures as well as the organization goals. The Corporate TV also allows the presentation of corporate information regarded as relevant.

How do we measure the consumptions?

The energy management system is directly connected to the meter system of the electricity provider, making reading effective and based on 100% real data, with no margin of error, thus allowing the making decisions with the utmost security and ensuring that they are the most suitable in each moment. In some situations, a large part of the savings may be achieved through simple personal behavior changes, without any requirement for investment.

Operating principle of a Shedding System:

The principle of Shedding Power Control is a feature that allows controlling the maximum permissible point for each 15-minute period, synchronized with the integration period of the energy provider. The control is done by shedding non-essential loads according to a priority and repeatability sequence set by the energy manager on the control system, proceeding to their reconnection in the next period. For each load shedding we perform the measurement of its operation status and instant consumption. We take the initiative of shedding loads from algorithms designed in the software, if proved necessary.
With load shedding, we are able to ensure that the limits established and contracted are never exceeded, so as not to cause an increase in the tariff into a higher ranking.

The use of a load shedding system allows:

  • To manage up to sixteen circuits fully automatically, the system may grow in multiples of eight circuits
  • To act in load shedding by priorities and cascading
  • To rotate the circuits used for shedding so that they are not always the same performing the operation
  • To reduce the electrical energy consumption during peak and off-peak hours
  • To ensure energy savings with the implementation of shedding systems and also with an economy of scale. The system that performs the acquisition of consumptions may be used simultaneously for shedding loads

With the right information we can make sound decisions and in that perspective we can ensure the rationalization of energy and greater energy efficiency, thus reducing the related costs.
